Huawei announced the 5G foldable phone, Mate X at MWC 2019 event last month. Now the company has confirmed that the phone will arrive in India later this year. However, the company did not provide any exact launch date for the phone. The Huawei Mate X launched globally at the price of EUR 2,299, which translates to around Rs 1,79,631 in India.

Wally Yang, Huawei Consumer Business Group’s Senior Product Marketing Director, said, “India is an important market for us and we have been consistently investing and expanding our footprint in the market. We are focused on delivering the user experiences that defines the future of smartphone in the smart era. The unveiling of the Huawei Mate X was the first key for consumers to open the door to 5G smart living. As the leader of the 5G era, we are bringing an inspired, intelligent experience to global consumers in every aspect of their lives. We want our customers here to witness Huawei’s global 5G technological strength, and experience this technology marvel.”

Huawei Mate X specifications

The phone has a 6.6-inch front screen and 6.38-inch back screen and can unfold for a combined 8-inch display. When folded, the smartphone has a 6.38-inch screen at the back, which can be used too. The Huawei Mate X is 5.4mm thick at its thinnest point when unfolded. When you open it, the Huawei Mate X has a thickness of 11mm. Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X features a borderless design with no notch or punch-hole camera. The smartphone is powered by extremely powerful Huawei’s Kirin 980 processor, that is used in the Mate 20 Pro and the Honor View 20. The Huawei Mate X has 8GB RAM and 512GB Storage.

It is powered by in-house Balong 5000 modem for 5G support. Huawei says its 5G modem offers double the speed than industry rivals. It claims that one 1GB movie can be downloaded in just 3 seconds.

Mate X sports 3 camera setup with Leica technology. Tri-camera system on the phone feels like a more measured approach versus Samsung’s overkill. The power button and fingerprint sensor are placed on the side.
