Xiaomi just dethroned Huawei from the third spot in the smartphone market. Inspite of spectacular performance in 2019, Huawei gave up in its number three position to Xiaomi.
According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, in the month of February Huawei sold 5.5 million units while Xiaomi managed to sell around 6 million units. Samsung topped the list with 18.2 million sales while Apple remains in the second position with 10.2 million unit sales.
It seems that ban the US government is hurting China. Last year, the US government banned Huawei for espionage activities. As a result of Huawei’s phone now lacks Google apps (Gmail, Play Store) and services. Google also no longer offers technical support to Huawei.
In the month of February, the whole smartphone industry saw a massive decline in the demand for smartphones. Monthly sales of February dropped from 99.2 million in 2019 units to 61.8 million in 2020.
