Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 690 5G; supports 4k HDR videos


Qualcomm announced a new Snapdragon 690 5G chipset. It is designed especially for mobile platforms and supports 5G networks. Qualcomm claims that it supports 120Hz display refresh rate and can record videos in 4K HDR. The camera will also able to capture 192-megapixel images.

In terms of architecture, it is built on Samsung’s 8nm fabrication process and features an octa Kryo 560 CPU cores and an Adreno 619L GPU. The octa-core CPU is split into two Cortex-A77 cores runs at 2GHz and six Cortex-A56 tunning at up to 1.7GHz. It features 2 x 16-bit DDR4 memory at up to 1866MHz, with a maximum of up to 8GB RAM. Qualcomm claims it gives 20% better CPU performance and up to 60% faster graphics performance as compared to its predecessor Snapdragon 675.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G announced

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G modem supports up to 2.5GB/s download and up to 660Mbps upload speeds over 5G networks. It also supports sub-6GHz, 5G SA and NSA modes, TDD and FDD with Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), global 5G roaming. Other features include support for Wi-Fi 6 via Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6200 system, Bluetooth v5.2, WiFi 802.11ax, and more. It also supports support India’s NavIC satellite navigation system.

Qualcomm’s new chipset would debut with a new 5G smartphone which will launch in the second half of the year. HMD Global, Motorola, TCL are some of the manufacturers that will launch phones based on Qualcomm 690 5G chipset.
