Generally, Authenticator apps considered to be safer than normal authentication method as it provides 2FA. But that is not the case with the Google Authenticator app. According to a recent report from Nightwatch Cybersecurity, the Google Authenticator app has some security flaws, which can be used by hackers to retrieve the authentication codes.
Google Authenticator app doesn’t use Android’s FLAG_SECURE setting, which prevents users from taking screenshots. Attackers or hackers can take the screenshot of the generated code bypassing the security features.
Until Google won’t fix the bug, you can switch to other Authenticator apps like Authy. But please don’t switch to the Microsoft Authenticator app as it also has a security flaw similar to Google’s Authenticator app.
