Summary

Samsung has put lots of effort to design this beautiful Galaxy tab S6 tablet. It has got beautiful build quality, good battery life, and a faster processor. But it costs way higher than Apple’s iPad. Also if you compare with iPad, then Tab S6 is not as good as Pro versions of the iPads. If Samsung tries to sell the product at fewer costs then users can think of buying the product. But with this price range, I don’t think any reason to update from iPad to Tab S6.

Design & Display

The tablet is made up of aluminum instead of previous-gen tablets that are made from glass. The tablet is well designed and solid build. The top bezels and side bezels are uniforms that give symmetrical look. On the back, there is an S-Pen dock that charges Pen wirelessly. I don’t know why Samsung did not add a 3.5 mm headphone jack. I find it a little disappointing. You must use USB-C headphones or use wireless earbuds like Apple Airpods. It has just USB-C Ports for charging. The four Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers are very loud and clear. The rear of the tablet has a dual-camera setup including a 13MP primary sensor and a 5MP ultra-wide angle shooter. On the front, it the tablet equipped with an 8MP sensor. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth 5.0.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 sports a 10.5-inch (2,560 x 1,600) WQXGA Super AMOLED display with slim bezels all around. The display comes with HDR10+ certification, offering dynamic range and colors that make even the darkest scenes very sharp and bright. It has a screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio that is great for watching movies on Netflix and videos on YouTube. I watched Dark on Netflix and did not encounter any problem in any of the scenes.

Samsung has used the optical fingerprint sensor. It is slow and unreliable, sometimes it was not able to unlock the tablet.

The Tab S6 is offered in Mountain Gray, Cloud Blue, or Rose Blush.

Processor & Performance

In terms of processor, it offers in two variants, with Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9610. The processor is paired with up 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The processor is fast enough to carry out all the daily tasks. I have used Tab S6 for more than a week and did not face any performance issues or lags.

S-Pen

Samsung has added a magnetic strip on the rear panel of the tablet to dock the stylus (S-Pen) and charge it wirelessly. The S Pen also comes with Bluetooth LE that allows you to take selfies or control multimedia by pressing the button on the stylus. The S-Pen can last for 10 hours after a 10 minute charge time. S-Pen is good for tasks like taking notes but if you try is to use for drawing then you will get frustrated.

The keyboard keys are small so you might not feel comfortable while using those keys. Also, the keyboard doesn’t come with a backlit keyboard. The best thing is the keyboard comes with a touchpad. The keyboard attaches to the tablet via magnets and a pogo pin connector.

Software and Dex Mode

Galaxy Tab S6 runs on Android 9 Pie with Samsung’s OneUI interface on top. It has all the features which generally you find in the Galaxy smartphones. You can use it for browsing, playing games and blogging. You can answers call and message with the Tab S6 if you are a Samsung user.

The company has further enhanced the Samsung DeX feature that turns your tablet into a desktop-like mode for better multitasking. Samsung has included a dedicated DeX button to the Tab S6 book cover keyboard. Pressing the function key and the DeX button automatically switches the Tab S6 from regular Android mode to its desktop-like PC mode, complete with the window app experience.

Unfortunately, DeX is still not very user-friendly. Wene you switch to DeX mode from standard mode, apps don’t remember their states, so they relaunch themselves, which takes a few seconds. There is also no window snapping feature; resizing the windows requires tapping and dragging on the screen or using the fiddly trackpad on the keyboard. ALso not all Android apps can be resized, even if you “force” them with a software setting. Instagram and LastPass is an example of such an app.

Battery

In terms of battery life, the Tab S6 packs a 7,040mAh battery. Samsung claims the new battery will last for 15 hours. In our test, which includes watching movies on Netflix, the battery lasted for about 11 hours.

Price & Availability

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is retail at Rs. 59,900. It is available on Amazon, Flipkart, Samsung Online Store, as well as offline Samsung partner stores. Launch offers include Rs. 5,000 cashback on HDFC credit/debit cards. They will also get an optional keyboard cover for just Rs. 5,499 and 6 months paid membership to YouTube Premium for free. The keyboard cover’s actual cost is Rs. 10,999.
