Both smartwatches are handy options for users who wanted to have a watch which can tell the time as well as track fitness and daily workout. But which one is suitable for you. Apple Watch Series 5 was launched last month whereas Fitbit Versa 2 was launched a few months back.
The Fitbit Versa 2 features a 1.4-inches AMOLED color display. The display is better and slightly bigger (0.05-inches) than its predecessor (Fitbit Versa). On the other side Watch Series 5 comes with a new LTPO (Low-Temperature Polysilicon and Oxide) display with the dynamic refresh rate. It can vary the refresh rate, so that if there’s no need to update the screen, it doesn’t, thus saving battery. It makes the screen dims when a user’s wrist is down and returns to full brightness with your wrist is raised. Both displays are pretty much similar; colors are natural and vibrant. But the main difference with Always-on display. Always-On display is used to see the time, So Apple has got a color display while Fitbit Versa 2 has a monochrome black and white display. Some users might get awkward to check the time in black and white display.
In terms of tracking features, both smartwatches offer more or less similar features. When I tried to compare both the watches side by side during a workout or any physical activities both show similar results like heart rate, calorie count. However, both have a different user interface to show data and numbers. Versa 2 has come loaded with fitness metrics including heart rate, pace, distance, elapsed time, calorie burns. Watch Series 5 also has these metrics but it also includes plenty of other features including cycling, cardio, Badminton, basketball, Swiming and many more.
In addition to fitness tracking, both smartwatches offer health tracking features. Series 5 has a free-fall detection feature. Apple Watch Series 5 now allows international calls to emergency services. The feature if enabled makes an automatic emergency call if Apple Watch senses the user has taken a hard fall and remains motionless for about a minute. The native Sleep tracking app is not available in Series 5 but it does available in Versa 2. Actually Fitbit revamped the sleep app for Versa 2. The sleep app categorizes your sleep into Rem, Night and Deep Mode. It also has a restorative sleep, when your heart rate falls below to a level enough that body starts recovering from a day. So based on these parameters app gives you sleep score out of 100. It also has an oxygen level monitoring feature that monitors your oxygen level in the blood while sleeping and helps detect breathing irregularities conditions in the night.
Watch Series 5 has built-in GPS while Versa 2 has connected GPS. So that means you will need a phone with you to record and monitor outdoor activities. Apple Watch Series 5 is only compatible with Apple devices only while Versa 2 is compatible with both Android as well as iSO devices. In terms of digital assistant Watch Series 5 has built-in Siri that can be summoned using voice or long-press and hold the physical button. Versa 2 comes with Alexa’s support which you can activate by long press and hold the physical button. Versa 2 doesn’t have a speaker so you cannot listen to the responses from Alexa and also you can not talk with Alexa. But this is not the case with Siri. Alexa can be used for just basic kinds of stuff and controlling your smart devices. To use the Alexa on a smartphone, you first need to register on the Alexa app and pair it with the watch.
Both smartwatches can also be used for checking out notifications and receive or reject a call. Both offers respond to messages with the watch itself. Both smartwatches come native Spotify apps. However, you cannot store or download any songs for offline play.
In terms of battery life, Versa 2 is the complete winner. The battery life lasts for about 5 days and with Always-On display, it can last up to-3 days. But Series 5 can last up to 18-hours with Always-On display.
The Watch Series 5 starts from Rs. 43,000 while Versa 2 costs Rs. 20,999.
The Versa 2 pretty much covers all the features of Apple Watch and costs just half the price of Series 5. It is a very good option to buy a good looking smartwatch with lots of fitness tracking features.
But if you don’t like black and white Always-On display and can’t carry your phone with you for monitoring outdoor activities then you can definitely go for Series 5. But if you think Series 5 too costly then you can also check out Series 3. Recently Apple has dropped the price of the watch. Series 3 just costs less than Versa 2 and covers all the basic fitness stuff.
