Russia has tested anti-satellite missiles: US

Science

The US claims that Russia has carried out a test for anti-satellite missiles. The test took place on July 15, when Russia military satellite Kosmos 2543 deployed a new object into an orbit. The object then comes very close to another Russian satellite but didn’t hit it. The US said, its behavior is similar to the test of anti-satellite missile capability.

“U.S. Space Command has evidence that Russia conducted a non-destructive test of a space-based anti-satellite weapon,” military officials said in a statement.

However, Russia denied it completely. The country said it is testing a technology that can monitor its own satellites in orbit.

India and China have also tested the anti-satellites missiles. But their tests were different as rockets were released from the earth’s surface. But in Russia’s case, the object/rocket is deployed from another satellite instead of the earth’s surface. The US also conducted the anti-millies test in 2008 in which it destroyed a malfunctioning US satellite.
