Cubigo, a Hasselt, Belgium-based developer of a platform for the senior living industry, raised $4.5m in Series A venture capital funding.

The round was led by Urbain Vandeurzen, with participation from Transvision.

The company intends to use the funds to introduce its platform to the senior living industry into the United States.

Founded in 2011 by Geert Houben and Dr. Peter Willems as a spin-off of the University of Hasselt, Cubigo provides an interactive online care platform which allows senior people to access to all kinds of products, services and applications to continue living independently at home for as long as possible. The platform enables users to make doctor’s appointments, set up video calls with family, read up on local news or events, track and share medical data, order meals, book home services providers, receive medication reminders, etc.

The company has signed a strategic partnership with Lyft, whose API will be integrated into the Cubigo platform. As a result, seniors will be able to easily schedule transportation, such as a trip to a doctor’s appointment or grocery store.

Cubigo has offices in San Francisco, Rotterdam, Brussels and Barcelona.
