Virtual Reality Headsets are generally very bulky and thick. But now Facebook is planning to change it. The social networking giant is working on the to make VR glasses as small as a pair of sunglasses.
In a research paper, Facebook submits a prototype with a Virtual Reality (VR) headset measuring just 9mm in thickness. Facebook created the sunglass like VR headset prototype by replacing the refractive lens with holographic optics and polarization-based optical folding. The polarization-based optical folding significantly reduces the distance between the display and the lens so that the image can be focused properly.
Facebook’s Prototype VR headset weighs just only 17.8 grams. But its weight is without the battery.
