Facebook is adding a feature called “Why am I seeing this post?” to its News Feed in an effort to be more transparent.
The feature will help you understand why posts from friends, pages, and groups appear in its News Feed — and to some extent, control their regularity. Not only that, but this will also give you more control over what you see in the News Feed, letting you easily manage the posts you interact with on the site.
“This means you’ll be able to tap on posts and ads in News Feed, get context on why they’re appearing and take action to further personalize what you see,” Ramya Sethuraman, Product Manager, Facebook wrote in a blog post on Sunday. “This is the first time that we’ve built information on how ranking works directly into the app”.
The “Why am I seeing this post?” button will be found in the drop-down menu that appears at the top right of every post in the News Feed.
Facebook starts rolling out the feature and it will be available to you in the coming days.
In addition to this, Facebook is also working on its “Why am I seeing this ad” feature which was launched in 2014. The tool will now present more information, for example, when exactly the advertiser uploaded their own customer information for Facebook audience matching, or whether the advertiser has any marketing partners helping them to run the ad.
“Both of these updates are part of our ongoing investment in giving people more context and control across Facebook”. “We will continue to listen to your feedback and evolve these features over time”, the company said in a blog post.
