Facebook announced a new tool that will let users transfer their Facebook photos and videos to other third-party apps including Google Photos. The photo transfer tool is rolled out to Ireland and will be further refined based on users’ input. Facebook is planning a worldwide release of the feature in the first half of 2020.
To keep privacy and security intact, all data transferred will be encrypted and people will need to enter their Facebook password before initiating the transfer. The new tool will be available within the Facebook information under the Facebook settings.
“We hope this product can help advance conversations on the privacy questions we identified in our white paper. We know we can’t do this alone, so we encourage other companies to join the Data Transfer Project to expand options for people and continue to push data portability innovation forward, Facebook wrote in a blog.
