Instagram will now ask your birthday during account creation

Facebook, Tech News

Instagram did some changes for its registration and account creation process. Now users have to provide their birthday details before creating new accounts. Existing users won’t have to provide their birthday details as of now. If users log in via their Facebook account, then they will be picked up from the Facebook profile. Since your account will be sync to the Facebook account, if you changed the account in the FB profile then it will automatically change on Instagram as well. The birthdays will be hidden from the other users. Instagram says you must be at least 13 years old to use the application.

Instagram believes that “asking for this information will help prevent underage people from joining Instagram, help us keep young people safer and enable more age-appropriate experiences overall.”

Users’ age will produce different privacy settings or in-app tips for staying safe online for young people. In addition, Instagram will let users control who can send you direct messages on Instagram. You can change the setting so that you can receive the message from your followers and the group you follow.
