Microsoft will pay up to $20,000 for finding bugs in Xbox

Microsoft announced a bug bounty program for its gaming console Xbox. As part of the program, the tech giant will pay up to $20,000 (rs. 14,00,000) for reporting bugs in its Xbox Live network. The program is open to anyone who has the skills the found security vulnerabilities. The reward will start from Rs 35,000 and will go up to Rs 14,00,000 depending on the severity of the bugs.

“The Xbox Bounty Program invites gamers, security researchers, and others around the world to help identify security vulnerabilities in the Xbox Live network and services and share them with the Xbox team. Qualified submissions are eligible for bounty rewards of $500 to $20,000,” Microsoft said.

According to the Microsoft official site, low severity bugs like spoofing will earn you up to $5,000 while high and severity bugs will give a chance to win up to $10,000 to $20,000. Microsoft has ruled out some vulnerabilities out of scope. These include Denial of Service, Low impact CSRF bugs, server-side information disclosure such as IPs, URL redirects and many more.

This is not the first time Microsoft is offering big reward in the bug bounty program. The company is already running other bug bounty programs for various other products including Microsoft Office suite, Windows operating system, the IE and Edge web browsers, worth of $3,00,000 reward.
