Digital audio streaming platform Mixcloud has launched a ‘fan-to-creator’ subscription service called Mixcloud Select.
It will allow Listeners to subscribe to their favorite channels, directly supporting them. Upon subscription, fans can download music for offline listening and view up-front tracklists, while contributing to license fees and royalties.
Starting at $2.99 a month, artists are free to set their own price, receiving a share of profits from their subscriptions, while artists, labels, and publishers played in their shows receive royalty revenue.
Launching the new subscription set-up, Mixcloud co-Founder Nico Perez says: “Mixcloud Select is our pioneering move toward building a fair and sustainable ecosystem that works for audio creators, artists, and listeners. We want to enable fans to get closer to the culture and communities they care about while ensuring that everyone involved in the creative process is recognized and rewarded accordingly”.
It offers over 15 million radio shows, DJ mixes and podcasts produced and uploaded by over 1.3 million tastemakers and curators
The first phase of Select has gone live today (December 4) with 47 Mixcloud creators, ranging from DJs including Afrojack, Nicole Moudaber, Lefto, and John Digweed to Mixcloud stars such as DJ Blighty and Low Light Mixes.
