Samsung has announced a new chipset, Exynos 880 SoC for mid-range segment smartphone. The chipset has equipped with integrated 5G modem and AI capabilities.
The chipset is designed using the 8nm FinFET process. It comes with two large ARM Cortex A77 cores at 2Ghz and six small ARM Cortex A55 cores at 1.8Ghz. The graphics are handled by the Mali-G76 MP5 GPU. Samsung incorporates a neural processing unit (NPU) and a digital signal processor (DSP) for AI.
The chipset supports the sub-6GHz 5G spectrum with a maximum downlink rate of 2.55Gbps and an uplink rate of 1.28Gbps. In addition, the chip supports E-UTRA-NA dual connectivity that combines 4G and 5G to offer a downlink speed of 3.55Gbps and uplink at 1.38Gbps. On LTE it can offer up to 1Gbps downlink.
If we talk about the camera, than Exynos 880 supports a single camera up to 64-megapixel and a dual-camera setup of 20-megapixel. It also supports 4K recordings at 30fps with HEVC(H.265), H.264, VP9 encoding, and decoding.
The chipset also supports screen resolutions of up to 2,520×1,080 pixels, LPDDRx memory and UFS 2.1, eMMC 5.1 flash memory, Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, FM radio, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo.
