Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram suffer major outage

Social networking sites Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp went down worldwide on Sunday evening. Either user couldn’t access the platform, or their feeds refused to refresh. Facebook users were presented with the message: “Something went wrong.”

Downdetector.com, a site that monitors site outages, shows Facebook was down since 6:30 a.m. EST. Users from several parts of Europe, South-east Asia, and North America are affected. Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines were affected.

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp all started to come back online at around 9 AM EST.

Facebook declined to comment on the cause of the problem, or say how many users had been affected.

On Twitter, the hashtags #Facebookdown and #Instagramdown were trending.

Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 and Whatsapp in 2014.
